Sweet Alison - Lobularia maritime

Many people will be familiar with this plant because they take time and trouble to grow it from seed for their rockeries. It is one of the hardiest and tenacious alpines requiring only a scrape of soil on barren rock to flourish. Because its supply of moisture is strictly limited the Sweet Alison grows, flowers then dies in a matter of weeks. It is important that during the short flowering period the flowers are fertilised so the Sweet Alison exudes a heady perfume that bees and wasps find irresistible. Even if you are yards away from this plant you will notice a heavy, honey like fragrance.
