BlackCap - Sylvia atricapilla

In Andalucia the Blackcap is one of our most common resident warblers but like most other warblers it is not often seen. It favours dense yet airy woodland, the maquis of Andalucia, often impenetrable to humans, is a favourite habitat where it will flit amongst the upper leafy branches. It is large for a warbler and appears a uniform grey with, for the male, a black cap. The female cap is more rusty red. Both have a melodious song and a very sharp ‘tek’ ‘tek’ alarm call which is often the first indication you will have that they are around.
