For the third year running residents and visitors turned out to raise money for the Harley Jae Trust. Harley Jae, local resident Teresa Blanchard’s grandson, is now three years old and suffers from West Syndrome, a severe form of epilepsy, development delay and learning disabilities. Money raised on the Costa del Sol has helped improve the quality of his life and that of his parents. Lucy, Harley’s mother, was in Duquesa for the event.
The day started with a golf tournament at Doña Julia Golf Club organised by Bob Gaston with the assistance of Dave Richards and Barry Wilkins (See T to Green).
At 12 noon a sponsored walk set off from Castillo de la Duquesa. About thirty people trekked to the far end of Sabinillas paseo and then back to Puerto de la Duquesa where Christine at the Penguin Bar provided refreshments. First to complete the walk were Sandy and Chris with joint second place going to Amanda, Diane and Sharon.
The golf and walk were followed by an evening of entertainment at Kinsales Bar with a golf presentation, supper and music by Rockin Johnny. During the evening an auction raised more money. Items under the hammer included a snooker cue signed by world champion Ronnie O’Sullivan and football shirts signed by Chelsea, Newcastle and Manchester City football teams.
As we go to print the events had raised 5,600 Euros with still more to be collected. Teresa said, ‘We were hoping to raise 2,000 Euros in this difficult climate so over 5,000 is fantastic. I would like to thank everybody that helped organise the day and all those that took part’.
